Planning a camping holiday in Cornwall is exciting—but knowing what to pack can make all the difference.  Whether you’re staying near Coverack at Little Trevothan Camping & Caravan Park or exploring the wider Lizard Peninsula, being well-prepared ensures a relaxing and enjoyable trip.  This guide covers everything you need to pack for camping in Cornwall, including essentials, clothing, family items, and dog-friendly extras.

✅ Quick Answer: What Should You Pack for Camping in Cornwall?

You’ll need:

  • A reliable tent or caravan setup
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (layers are key)
  • Cooking and food supplies
  • Sleeping essentials
  • Beach and outdoor gear
  • Extras for children and dogs

👉 Cornwall’s weather can change quickly, so preparation is key.

🏕️ 1. Camping Essentials

Start with the basics for a comfortable stay:

  • Tent (or touring caravan/motorhome setup)
  • Tent pegs and mallet
  • Groundsheet (breathable) or footprint
  • Sleeping bags (season-appropriate)
  • Pillows or travel pillows
  • Camping chairs and table
  • Torch or headlamp

👉 Even in spring and summer, evenings can be cool near the coast.

👕 2. Clothing for Cornwall Weather

Cornwall’s coastal climate means you should pack for all conditions.

Must-have clothing:

  • Waterproof jacket 🌧️
  • Warm layers (fleeces or jumpers)
  • T-shirts and lighter clothing for sunny days
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Flip flops or sandals for the beach
  • Swimwear

👉 Layering is the best approach—you can adapt throughout the day.

🍳 3. Cooking & Food Supplies

Bring:

  • Camping stove or BBQ
  • Gas canisters or fuel
  • Pots, pans, and utensils
  • Plates, bowls, mugs, and cutlery
  • Washing-up kit (sponges, washing liquid)
  • Cool box or portable fridge

👉 Many local shops are available near Coverack, so you don’t need to bring everything.

🛏️ 4. Sleeping Comfort

A good night’s sleep makes all the difference:

  • Air mattress or sleeping mat
  • Pump (manual or electric)
  • Extra blankets
  • Earplugs (optional but useful on busy sites)

🌊 5. Beach & Outdoor Gear

When staying near the coast, don’t forget:

  • Towels and beach mats
  • Sunscreen and hats ☀️
  • Windbreak (very useful in Cornwall!)
  • Picnic blanket
  • Day bag or rucksack

The beaches and coastal paths around the Lizard Peninsula are a huge part of the experience.

👨‍👩‍👧 6. Family-Friendly Extras

If you’re travelling with children:

  • Games and toys
  • Bikes or scooters

What our customers say

A Little Piece of Heaven
My 5th consecutive year at Little Trevothan and that should say it all. Clean, tidy, friendly and the owners are a joy to deal with. They have a separate play area for kids so no balls hitting your tent! There's a quiet time to cut out late noise. It's not Butlins, it's just peace and tranquility, and perfectly located for getting about.

Excellent Site with Everything you Need
Very hiker-friendly site with all the facilities you need on a tough hike on the coast path. Spotless facilities, plenty of showers, loos, washing up sinks and a laundry. Lots of helpful details such as washing line, little shop, device charging and lovely well looked after level pitches. Really kind touches were providing me with a table and chair, as a backpacker these little luxuries make a huge difference. It is close to the coast path and you pass another campsite, but I felt it was worth a little extra walk for such a lovely stay.

We Never Want to Go Home
Our 5th stay here, absolutely love this place and location. Spotlessly clean and comfy warm caravans. If you want restful relaxing quiet holidays this site is ideal. Had some lovely days out at Mevagissey, Falmouth and Lizard. Some great food eaten at Wavecrest Cafe, Roskillys Farm and in Coverack The Paris pub and the Lifeboat House never disappoint. Thank you.
